Dobarlau

Dobârlău (Hungarian: Dobolló; German: Dobersdorf) is a commune in Covasna County, Romania. It is composed of four villages: Dobârlău, Lunca Mărcuşului (Bélmező), Mărcuş (Márkos) and Valea Dobârlăului (Dobollópatak). Ethnic Romanians represent the majority of the population.

DOBOLLÓPATAK

It is a typical scattered settlement that lies in the northern foreground of the Bodzafordulo Mountains, more precisely in the upper part of the valley of Dobolló Creek. The population is mainly engaged in animal-breeding and agriculture but there are quite a lot of people who commute daily to Brasso to their workplaces.

From an ecclesiastic point of view, the village used to belong to Dobollo till 1984, when a separate congregation was formed. The Orthodox church was built between 1977 and 1979. Traditions that are still alive today are Christmas caroling and greeting the New Year.

MÁRKOSRÉT

The scattered settlement of Márkosrét lies on the damp territory lying between the highway leading to Brassó and Tatrang Creek; it is populated by Romanian inhabitants. Its oldest houses were built in the first trimester of the 20^th century.

There is no church in the settlement; the members of the Orthodox congregation go to the church in Markos. There is an elementary school and a house used for cultural activities. The people of the village keep the tradition of Christmas caroling and greeting the New Year.
