Presentation - The Hunyadi Castle Timisoara

The Hunyadi Castle

The Hunyadi Castle was built by the king Carl Robert of Anjou, who, after his visit to Timişoara in 1307, decided to establish his residence here. The construction was probably carried out by Italian architects, and was finished in 1315, because, by 1316 the king had already settled in his new castle, where he had lived almost 8 years. It has a tower in Romanesque style, and a facade out of burned brick. Today it hosts the Banat Museum. In front of it there are currently two street lamps, on which it is written in several languages, that Timişoara was the first city continental Europe, which, in 1884 has introduced  electric public lighting.
