Belis-Fantanele falls within the category of artificial barrier lakes, being located at the confluence of Gilau Mountains (East), Vladeasa Mountains (west) and Big Mountain (South), Cluj county. It has an area of 9.8 square kilometers and a length of 13 km, is located at an altitude of 990 m. The main purpose of developing it is to produce electricity, this dam ensuring the required flow of the hydroelectric power plant of Marisel.

Between 1970-1974, the villages located on the Valley of the Worm Somes have been displaced, people being forced to leave their households. In dry summers, when the flow of the lake is very small, you can see the ruins of the church in Giurcuta de Jos.

Currently, on the banks of the lake lies the resort of Fantanele.
