On the plateau where in 1601 was assassinated the prince Michael the Brave (1558-1601), in the vicinity of the funerary monument of the grand Prince, the Archbishopric of Vad, Feleac and Cluj decided to build a monastery dedicated to the St. Archangels Michael and Gabriel, in the memory of the one that has made the first political union of the Romanian principalities Wallachia, Transylvania and Moldavia.

The precinct is an architectural monument of Byzantine art, the church being a faithful copy of Michael-Voda church from Bucharest, founded by the voivode.

Also under the jurisdiction of Mihai Voda monastery there is a Hermitage of St. John the Evangelist in Triteni, Padureni village.
