The Botanical Natural Reserve "fanatele Clujului" Cluj-Napoca

Fanatele Clujului is a floristic reservation located at 2-4 km north from the city of Cluj-Napoca, on both sides of Fanetelor Valley. Is one of the first protected areas of Romania, since 1932.

The specifics of this area is given by steppe vegetation, here there are over 450 plant species characteristic of this area. The variety of flora is sustained by very rugged terrain and the local microclimate particularities. Steppe vegetation is dominated by associations of feather grass, meadow grass, fescue, bearded, brome. Botanical relics which bring fame to the Fanetele Clujului are numerous: tendril, Transylvanian steppe iris, bream, steppe pesma, Astragalus peterfii, steppe crocus. Among the plant species protected at an European level we meet pasque flower, jaundice, Echium russicum, sea kale. Also, here are a few rare butterfly species protected at an European level.
