Statue Von Stefan Cel Mare Iasi

The equestrian monument, representing the Moldavian Voivod, Stefan cel Mare, is placed in front of the Palace of Culture. The author, a French sculptor, Emmanuel Frémiet, is the well-known author of "Joan of Arc" (an equestrian monument from Paris, 1874). "Stefan cel Mare" Monument was made upon Gheorghe Asachi's project and was inaugurated on 5-th of June 1883, with the participation of the King Carol I-st. On the pedestal of Carrara pink marble there are two bronze high-reliefs, representing fight scenes during the wars of national defence (1497 and 1475). In the proximity there are two "Krupp" guns, used by the Romanian army during the Independence War (1877 - 1878).
