General informations - Lupeni

Lupeni commune is formed from 8 villages: Morăreni, Bisericani, Bulgăreni, Păltiniş, Satu Mic, Păuleni, Firtuşu and Sâncel.

The village became famous after Áron Tamási, Hungarian novelist and dramatist. Most tourist attractions link to writer. Today his native house is functioning as a museum with permanent exhibition, presenting the most important works and personal objects. Information: Mátyás Sipos.

An often visited objective is his grave in the church’s garden, with a carved gravestone, made by Jenő and Tibor Szervátiusz. The former Catholic high school from Odorheiu Secuiesc bears his name.

In Lupeni the production of wood charcoal is as characteristic as pottery in Co-
rund. The wood piles are placed on Calonda (Kalonda) Plateau so the charcoal-burners lives here during the year. In every September they organize the Festival of Charcoal with fair, music and dances.
