General informations - Zetea

Zetea is a village situated at 550-575 m altitude in the valley of the Târnava Mare river, in the western part of the Harghita Mountains, on the 138 County Road at 12 km from Odorheiu Secuiesc. In the papal lists it is mentioned for the first time in 1333. According to tradition the village was called Cseleháza (The Place of Tricks), because in the time of the Tatar invasion the locals escaped from destruction by a trick. Another explanation is that the village got its name from the sunken castle of Zete.

The village was famous for logging and shingles production.  These represented the people’s living source. Thanks to the skillful carpenters of the village, their furniture is well known abroad as well.
