"piatra Craiului" National Park Predeal

Dates from 1938, surface 14,800 ha.

It includes:

Nature Reserves:

·         Perete Vestic

·         Piatra (Craiului) Mică

·         Prăpăstiile Zărneştilor

·         Hornurile Grindului – Muchia Lungă

1000 species and 123 sub – species of superior plants (32% of country total) out of which 53 endemic species (41% of country total) including the remarkably delicate and beautiful Diantus Callizanus.

Fauna is as rich and varied as the vegetation: Berus viper, Tetrao urogallus (capercaillie) Rupicapra rupicapra (chamois), to name just a few of the most important species.

Fin this area the project Big Carnivores in the Carpathions is being developed, aiming at preserving wolf, bear and lynx population and their habitat.

November 1999 marks the beginning of the project for the management of the Park “Piatra Craiului”, project assisted by the International Bank.
