Rezervation Of Tisa Pângăraţi Bicaz

The yew trees Resevation – Pângăraţi is one of the three reservations of this kind of our countr’s territory, consisting of a forested area and having the role of protection for the yew trees species (about 500 patterns), with a surface of 2 hectares.

Situated in a landslip area, in the reservation there have been made consolidation afforestations, therefore we will find a combination of fir trees species, pine, common spruce, beech tree, juniper tree, bloody twig, cornel tree and nut tree.

The reservation has yew tree patterns of over 80 years, and, it seems that there is one pattern of over 500 years! The yew tree, that can measure between 6 and 15 metres height and between 1,5 and 6 metres in diameter, lays on a wide land, from Great Britain to Caucaz, Northern Iran and Nortern-Western Africa.

The yew tree wood, very heavy, strong, elastic and compact can be polished, but its work lasts a very long time. Red-coloured, the yew tree wood is very precious for manufacturing some artistic pieces, wooden sculptures, furniture or even household objects. The yew tree can be also burnt as an incensed.

In Romania, the yew tree grows in beech trees forests, but it is also planted in parks and gardens as an ornamental tree. The unresponsable cutting of the very valuable yew tree led to a drastic reduction of the samples number.

Therefore, wherever planted in our country, the yew tree is a protected species and it is declared a monument of nature.
