Presentation - Carol I Palace Bucharest

Carol I Palace

Palace of Carol I University Foundation was built between 1891-1895 according to the plans of Paul Gottereau architect. The edifice was built to celebrate a reign of 25 years of King Carol I and to shelter the Royal Foundations and to be the cultural centre for different conferences or meetings. In this respect the building was gifted with a library. From 1947 the building has become the head office of the Central University Library.

On its place was located the house of Grigore Peucescu editor of the Time Newspaper. Here was for the first time when Mihai Eminescu red for the first time the poem Scrisoarea a III-a (the Third Letter). Evidence for this is the commemorative plate placed on 15th June 2001, on one of its today’s walls.
